FBC Newsletter - Smart Borders - December 2021
Bilateral coordination remains essential for travel recovery
In this fifth edition of Smart Borders we decided to focus on the most recent border recovery initiatives. We welcome the final report of the Task Force on Public Health and the U.S.-Canada Border published by the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute on October 29, 2021, and in particular the recommendation to reverse the current zero risk paradigm, and transition towards coordinated risk management supported by real-time data sharing, interoperable technological solutions. We are also delighted to present a brief summary of recommendations and proposals put forward by the FBC Task Forces at the FBC/PNWER Future Borders Strategy Workshop that took place in Vancouver, Canada, on November 17, 2021
FBC Multi-modal proposals for safe travel resumption
In this fourth edition of Smart Borders, we focus on multi-modal perspectives for industry recovery. In particular, we review the outcomes of our webinar on safe travel resumption (February 26, 2021) and outline concrete proposals for three modes of transportation: air, land, and maritime travel. We are also extremely honored to feature Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
In this third edition of Smart Borders, we focus on the latest developments surrounding COVID-19 vaccination and the challenges ahead for a safe reopening of the Canada-U.S. border, and we review the main outcomes of the webinar on testing and vaccination for safe air travel resumption that took place on December 8, 2020. Finally, we are featuring the Maritime Task Force, one of the four Task Forces under the Border Recovery Working Group.
In this second edition of Smart Borders, we focus on the latest developments surrounding rapid testing, health protocols and health passports across modes of transportation in the U.S. and Canada. We also introduce the leaders for each of the four Task Forces under the Border Recovery Working Group. Stay tuned!
Some perspectives for industry recovery
In this first edition of Smart Borders we look at the inevitability of global pandemics, some initiatives to ease the burden of travel restrictions and we present our principles for the easing of U.S.-Canada border restrictions on non-essential travel. We also interview some of our leaders from the Supply Chain / Goods Movement Task Force.
