May 3, 2022 – The Future Borders Coalition (FBC) – a bi-national industry group representing the transportation, trade, and tourism sectors – is pleased to announce that Canada-U.S. relations leader Dr. Laura Dawson is its new Executive Director. Dr. Dawson brings more than 20 years’ experience launching and leading initiatives in North American trade, borders, and technology.
Dr. Dawson welcomes this head and heart opportunity: “I have focused my career on the U.S.-Canada relationship and am delighted to be able to apply my skills and energy to making the border better for trade and travel. I am excited about the prospect to bring together governments, the private sector, not-for-profit organizations, as well as community stakeholders and subject-matter experts from both sides of the border to develop innovative solutions to our shared border challenges.”
Matt Morrison, Co-Chair of the Future Border Coalition, said: “We are delighted to welcome Laura as our Executive Director. Her experience working with government decision-makers and industry on both sides of the border, including her grasp of the key policy and technological challenges that affect the U.S.-Canada border, will bring enormous value to FBC’s future strategy and market positioning.”
One of the top priorities facing FBC this year is managing the challenges of the post-pandemic transition for air, land, sea, and rail service providers. Dr. Dawson is enthusiastic about the opportunity to develop pilot programs that will apply new technologies and cooperative mechanisms for safe and efficient border crossings: “We are never going to return to the pre-2020 border, but there is no reason that border crossings have to be slower and more difficult. The pandemic taught us that Canada and the U.S. can innovate quickly and effectively when they work together to solve shared challenges.”
