Lessons in Leadership from the Canadian Border Services Agency

During his term as CBSA President (2016-2022), John Ossowski honed his ability to lead during turbulent times. The work of the CBSA to keep Canadians safe while facilitating the free flow of travelers and trade is challenging at the best of times given that Canada shares nearly 9000 km of border with the United States. Add to that the uncertainty of border management during a global pandemic and you’ve got challenges in crisis management and organizational leadership than no business school textbook could even contemplate. The discussion includes lessons learned during John’s term as CBSA President, insights on border integration with the United States, and what is needed building a more resilient and efficient border for travel and trade.
